A few weeks ago, I found this hello sign on etsy from the Say Hello shop! I was looking for a way to dress up our entry way that seems to be a catch all place for shoes and jackets, backpacks, school papers and bills, and was not exactly how I wanted to have the first impression of the inside of our house look.
I decided to paint it yellow because it went well with our turquoise sliding doors.
A few years ago, I used a frame that my Dad had made to display pictures at the Healthy Baby Boutique but when they closed, I had no use for any big prints, but loved the size of the frame, so I painted it white and the backing board in chalkboard paint. I have displayed various canvases in the middle of the chalkboard like I saw on Ashley Ann's blog but this one fit in the space well for now so it is the one I am currently using. I am sure it will change from time to time. ;) The camera I got at The Kansas Barn Sale last year that the kids use to pretend to take pictures with. THe orange print I got on etsy as well.
I bought the wooden table made from repurposed wood off of Craigslist and was delighted to find that it fit exactly below the chalkboard and in the space that I wanted it. It was perfect. The shelf below was just tall enough to display some of the globes that I have been collecting over the years. The yellow mail holder is from the et cetera shop downtown and the lamp is from Target a few years ago. The original shade for it had been broken and was very dirty, so I got a new one.
I cut a fabric piece to fit a little larger than the lampshade itself. Then I used spray adhesive for fabric and sprayed it on the fabric and the shade and wrapped the fabric around the shade.
I trimmed the excess fabric and folded the edges under and smoothed the fabric around the lampshade.
Here it is finished and on the lamp. I may need to paint the lamp now... but that is for another day!
For now it makes me smile when I walk in the door and it makes it feel more put together.
The next project is painting the hallway and upstairs doors... I haven't decided about the french doors yet. I kind of like them the way they are for now, but they would look good painted too. Oh the projects of an older house! It's so fun to get them checked off the list though and see the progress start to show!
