The ipad/netflix battle in this house is real people... They would seriously play it all day if they could. I am trying so hard to control the amount of screen time they have. It makes me a little sad when that is all they want to do.
I find the after school hours to be the hardest for me. I'm tired, the older ones are tired from school and the younger ones get frustrated because they have to share everything with the older ones. It is so easy just to throw them in front of the t.v. until supper.
So the other day I decided to start planning afternoon activities and crafts for them. I had seen this idea on pinterest before and knew they would love it... especially Ethan who LOVES to build things.
Ethan helped me put some marshmallows in the mason jars and dumped out the toothpicks on the table and I let them have at it. It kept them so busy I was able to do a lot of things around the house without interruption and I would take pictures every now and then and praise them on their creations. Nora built hers but soon decided to eat the marshmallows instead...
I made them a veggie tray snack later to balance out the sugar overload of marshmallows that they consumed...
Kien had fun for a little while but got frustrated... So he left to find what else he could play with...
He came back with this box and Ethan helped him climb inside and he pretended to be Baymax from the movie Big Hero 6 (Awesome movie by the way, if you haven't seen it you really should!) I believe it is playing at the discount theater in Wichita right now.
I loved that he was using his imagination... and thinking out of the box... or inside the box... ;)
Ethan went back to creating...
Kaia was getting a bit frustrated with hers because it wasn't 3-dimensional at first but Ethan came and showed her how and she was so excited!
They worked together and came up with this! I love it!
It amazes me and makes my heart happy to see what can happen when you turn off the t.v. and watch their imaginations soar! Now I am off to go pin some more kids crafts on my pinterest page! Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
