I decided this year to take pictures at least once a week of our everyday lives. So far it is week 5 and I have kept true to the promise I made to myself!
Today he woke up in a happy mood... we snuggled in bed with Nora and he asked if he could have a muffin for breakfast. I said yes, and after he ate the muffin he came back in the room and saw me editing at my computer and said, "Mommy, I want to go back to sleep with you again!" Of course he didn't really want to sleep, he simply wanted to hang out and snuggle some more. So, of course I did! He wanted to play the ipad after a while and I told him Daddy took it to work and then he wanted to watch a movie on the laptop so I told him I didn't know the code since Daddy changed it. Sneaky, right? We have been dealing with issues of too much electronic time which drives me a little crazy. I am sure that there are others that deal with this too. We read books instead and then decided to get up and go for a walk. I use to walk with the kids all of the time, but now that there is four of them it is sometimes a struggle and I simply don't do it much anymore. He was so excited that I said YES (a word I am trying to say more often to them) and went and got his helmet and shoes on.
I told him to ride up and down the sidewalk a few times so I could take a picture of him in action, and then I had him pose by his little sister. It was a little more chilly than I had anticipated when we first decided to go, but it was refreshing none the less.
He soon decided that he wanted to wear his hood like this and started doing a silly dance. He cracks me up sometimes. :)
We walked downtown and ate at the Breadbasket because it was early enough they still had their breakfast buffet! Best part? Kids are only a penny to eat there! Afterwards we went to THE ET CETERA SHOP downtown on the way to visit Grandma and I got these goodies. Magazines and vintage hardback books for the kids and a vintage gardening book.
On the way home from my parent's house we went to the hardware store that is by their house to pick up some paint for some projects I have been meaning to finish.
On a side note, I will be so sad when she outgrows her turquoise glitter toms!
At first I was disappointed that she fell asleep on the way home but then I realized I could start on one of those projects!! I bought these the other day on a buy/sale/trade site and I wasn't fond of the dark wood. It's simply not my style!
It was a little windy outside and it looked like it could rain, but I decided to start anyway because it is rare I have an hour with a sleeping child and nothing else to do... and then I ran out of paint... :( so I guess I will try to finish it up tomorrow! But here is what it looks like so far. :) Much improved already I would say! I went with the brighter color because the lighter color did not cover as well. I can't wait to put it in the play room when it is finished!
While I was painting, Kien decided to pick some "wishers." :0
Sweet boy... I am glad I decided to spend the day with him!
This basket is last weeks fun find from THE ET CETERA SHOP. I decided to put it in the entry on the bench and put the vintage books in it for reading time after school.
They are cheap enough, I can change them out quite often so there is always something new to read! We have tried going to the library but I never get the books back in time or they get lost or torn, so for us this works great! I even get some magazines to read which is a secret pleasure of mine that I don't always have time for. Who can resist Martha Stewart or Real Simple??
After I was done painting for the day, I got to eat Vietnamese PHO for lunch that was leftover from last night's supper! I am lucky to have a Mother in Law that passes her outstanding recipes to her son. :) Someday he will teach me, and I will blog about it, but SOrry, the recipes are a family secret!
Nora decided that my big bowl looked better than her little bowl so I came back from getting my camera and she had stolen my chair! Also, apparently shirts are napkins at our house... that leads me back to my reality that it really is Monday and leaves me to go tackle that big laundry pile in the basement and the house that needs to be cleaned again!
Last Saturday we decided to take all of the cousins on my husband's side of the family to the drive-in movie. His family had always went when he was little, but I had never been. It was our kids first time too!
It takes 3 large vehicles to haul all 11 grandkids, and 5 adults, so we arrived early to set up and get good parking spots.
We scooped all of the kiddos into the back of the truck for a photo op. In my delight, it was the perfect time of night for pictures. :)
After we took pictures, we gathered up the pizzas and drinks and fed all of the kids...
$5 pizzas that are hot and ready are ideal for drive in movie nights! Easy peasy.
I made myself jump in a picture so that the kids remember me being there. ;) I got to snuggle this guy most of the night! He is definately a Momma's boy and I love it!
While they ate, I put together all of the goodie bags that I labeled with each child's name and filled them with a variety of candy and popcorn that I had popped at home before we came. I seriously should have done another bag of popcorn since they ate it up so fast!
If I had more time during the day I would have had them ready before hand, but the whole day I was kind of running behind. We handed out the goodie bags and sat down in our lawn chairs because the movie was about to begin!
I LOVE all of the vintage ads they played. It was so fun, I think this will become a family tradition for our family too!
On Fridays while my Mother-in-law is back in Vietnam to visit relatives, I watch my little niece and one of my nephews. Since it was Good Friday, the older kids did not have school so I had 7 kids that day to keep entertained. Luckily it was a BEAUTIFUL spring morning and the kids played outside the majority of the day. I decided it would be fun to make a snack, and whipped up some pretzel dough with my new Kitchenaid mixer. It took no time at all and the kids were so excited when I called them inside and they each got their OWN piece of dough to make their pretzels with. Believe me, when you are from a family with a lot of kids/ and or cousins, that is a BIG deal! I usually let them help make the dough too if there are only one or two kids around to dump in the ingredients, but I knew that there would be a lot of fighting over who got to do what so I figured it would be easier this way.
I used this recipe off of pinterest that I had tried the weekend before so I knew that it was good. :)
I doubled the recipe and didn't bother with the frosting though. They are sweet enough without it...
This little girl slept the whole time, which I admit made it a bit easier.
Kien was so excited to play with the dough. Don't worry, I made them all wash their hands before they could help since they had been playing outside.
Here they are before baking. We had about 10-15 minutes to wait while they baked so we went outside and had icy pops! (Not sure if that's what they are called, but that is what we call them)
Baking with me always makes Kaia super happy. :) It is one of her favorite things to do with me.
I'd say they turned out great! ANd, I didn't even help roll them and they didn't turn out funny looking!
In fact, they were so good, we ate them all up!
You should try to make it, it is so much fun... and your kids will think you are the best mom ever!
Hope everyone had a good Easter! I will post those pics later this week... Now back to the editing!
I took this family's pictures this past weekend and boy did wind come out to play! I thought I was going to blow away at times, it was seriously that strong... so, well, we just worked with it! I tried to face the girls' gorgeous long hair so it blew like a supermodel's hair... :)
There is something about kids sweet little feet... I love how many there are and that they are all wiggling the dirt in their toes to feel the texture.
This little guy did not want to hold anybody's hand! I love how it captured his independent personality and his big brother's natural smile! Also note, the flowing hair again in the wind. Ha! In this case it worked great!
Individuals of each kid is always a must! Don't you think they are all just super adorable?!
I love using the big blue couch for shoots because it gives the kids a place to all gather and doesn't it look stunning with the beautiful blooming Bradford Pear trees in the background? I am truly sad that spring time blooms on trees only last a few short weeks. :(
Check out this beautiful couple... How lucky they are to be blessed with so many wonderful Grandchildren!
Even with the wind we had, I am so glad the sun came out to see us and the weather was nice and warm! Check out the beautiful lighting I had to work with!
You can really see the family resemblance in all of these brothers!
I have watched these little guys grow over the years and it so fun to take their pictures again! This talented young lady below on the blue couch with her gorgeous family is Shelby. You should check out her facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stwgoods! She makes awesome signs, one of which will be hanging in my new kitchen soon! I can't wait to put it up... I may have to have one custom made for each of the kids rooms soon too.
Ethan bought Kaia the toy phone for her birthday and the asian baby doll was Kaia's that she gave to Nora because she wanted her to have it. I love it when the kids think of things that will make the other siblings happy! Ethan even made pink play-dough with me for her birthday too because he knew she would like that color. :) Sweet boy. The kids love to play "Mom and Dad" which is like the version of "House" that I used to play with my friends or cousins because m Sometimes the boys play too, but today they were playing Legos in their room. Here Kaia is being the Mom and Nora is the baby that is pretending to sleep because Kaia told her to.
Kaia keeps begging for me to sign her up for soccer. She found Ethan's old shoes and shin guards in the hall closet and insisted on wearing them the entire day...
This is Nora's post nap hair... :)
Kaia recently started reading chapter books (with some help) and is sooooo excited about it! She has been wanting to read so bad and finally knows how. She often follows me around the house or reads to Nora or loudly during doctor visits so that the doctor knows she can read... pretty much to anyone that will listen! I love that she loves to read. At the beginning of the school year she used to always carry a chapter book around with her and pretend to read it silently so people would think she was actually reading it!
It's hard to pay attention to the book when Momma is nearby...
but Kaia doesn't care. She keeps reading and reading and reading! Love that girl!
These little guys showed up for their shoot wearing these ADORABLE navy and blue chevron ties from www.zulilly.com! How cute are they?!
My Mom bought this antique high chair from an auction a while back. It is a perfect prop for a baby that can't sit up steadily on it's own yet. :)
This is Grayson... he has the sweetest little boy voice that just melts you. I have taken his pictures since he was just a few weeks old. It is so fun watching kids grow up and adding siblings to their family!
This is of my favorite guy poses... it works for adults and kids! He looks like he just stepped out of a J. Crew ad or something.
Baby cuteness overload for sure! He has such long eyelashes! Thanks guys for sharing your kiddos with me once again... I hope you love your pictures... the rest will be posted next week for you. :)
I am making an effort to take more pictures of our everyday lives around the house this year and have decided to take pictures once a week. Not on any particular day, because some days are just too busy or exhausting to set a certain day of the week. I have been leaving my camera out where it is accessible and find it much easier to reach and grab it and have the settings already ready so I don't miss a moment. This particular time I set them up with paints, paper and some celery ends to make flower prints and let them have at it. They LOVED it... and I also loved it because it kept them entertained while I made supper that night. ;)
I simply cut used the cut end of the celery stalks from supper and they used them as stamps!
Even Nora was having fun! She decided that painting on her hand was more exciting though...
So into the bath she went!
For some reason she is insistent on drinking the water from the faucet... I can't stop her, so this time I just went with it...
This sweet little guy rolled over for the first time during the shoot while his Mommy was right behind me cheering him on... and I caught it! So much fun!
I finally brought my iron bed out after 2 years of having it in my upstairs playroom waiting to be used for a shoot. Why did I wait?? I love the images I got with it. :)
These two sweeties have visited me plenty before... ever since the younger one was a newborn! Their family was very excited (and me too) when they added a little brother to the clan!
It was even warm enough (just barely!) to do some diaper pics... I love the simplicity of this photo. I can't wait to see this little guy grow up and run around with his big sisters! Congratulations Jose & Jamie! Your family is beautiful... next time I am going to throw you guys in a few so be prepared! ;)
