So I've had this idea for a while now... But I needed a stand first. I texted my Dad some pictures of stands that I liked and he made his own awesome version! He texted me a picture a few days later of what he had come up with. I LOVED it. I couldn't wait to gather up things to stylize the shoot I had been dreaming up in my head.
I had a bunch of various styles of white mugs that came with the sets of dishes we bought last year when we hosted Christmas at our house. I loved them, but didn't really have a use for them until now. I don't drink coffee and I cut way back on sugar and carbs so hot chocolate for me was out of the question... So there they sat in the cupboard until last week. I had some fun red and white paper straws on hand and bought some accessories at Target and Wal-Mart to dress it up a bit! The fabric I found at the local fabric shop in town that is going out of business soon so I got them at a deep discount! They turned out to match perfectly! I was originally going to make bunting out of them but never had time to get it sewn together so when I came across the Fa la la la la banner in the Target dollar section I fell in love! The next day I was walking by the antique store downtown and came across the old wooden sled... It was perfect! And then the next day? I found the awesome red lantern at the grocery store on sale. I didn't even realize that it lit up until the kids turned it on in the car!
I decided to take the kids pictures because I knew if I didn't do it now, I would be way to busy the day of the shoot to take their pics and it just wouldn't happen.
I let them go play in the trees while I set up the shoot. They loved playing hide and seek and pretending they were running from a monster.
I finally got it all set up and had them come take a picture in front of the setup just in case they got all messy!
I may or may not have sprayed whip cream from the can in their mouths to all get them to sit in one spot and not run around. Haha! Whatever works, right?!
After I took some with them together, I let them have at it. They loved pretending they were selling the hot chocolate to each other! I am pretty sure the stand will make it's way into the new playroom when I am done with it.
I bought some containers to keep the hot chocolate warm and it worked out really well! The new mustache cups I got were a hit!
I hand painted the sign a few days ago and I really like the way it turned out! I thought about stenciling the words but I'm glad that I didn't. It has a more handmade look about it I think.
The kids loved putting the whip cream and marshmallows on themselves...
I know there is a photo overload on this post, but I couldn't decide so I just posted all of my faves!
I finally got this boy to stop long enough to get a good picture of him...
I was going to take their pictures on their birthday but it never happened. Maybe I could do Nora's 3 year, 3 months pictures soon!
Kaia absolutely loved playing as the server.
This little boy was having so much fun, I even got him to pose for a few by himself!
I started an event page on my facebook page with details about the mini shoot coming up this weekend. I was originally going to do only one day but there has been so many inquiries that I decided to add another day! If you would like to have me set a time aside for you to take pictures of your kids or family, just shoot me a message! I am working out all the final schedule tomorrow. Hurry though, there are only a few spots left!
I hope you all have a wonderful week and come to see me this weekend at the Christmas tree farm! I can't believe Thanksgiving is just around the corner!
It's been a long time since I did a blog post... This fall has been super busy! I have been trying to juggle it all... kids, work, family time, lots of photo shoots (which I am extremely grateful for btw) Through it all, and the past several years it seems I have been low on energy and have been getting monster migraines that will sometimes last 2-3 days. Yikes. So finally when I went to the Doctor's office this year, I mentioned the migraines again and asked if it could have anything to do with my blood sugar levels. It seemed like I would always wake up with one whenever I slept in at all. I wondered if it was because I missed breakfast. You see, my Mom is diabetic and there is a strong history of it in our family. He said, "Well, we can get it tested if you like..." and I said "YES."
The next day I took a blood test and a few days later I got a call back, saying that my levels were "a little high." I had to go back the next day and take another test and found out that my levels were in the pre-diabetes range. The good news is that with diet and exercise, I should be able to turn this thing around or at least delay it for a long time.
While they were just bearly in the range, I knew it was a wake up call to make some life changes. Cutting out soda was the first step, which I had actually quit the week before the test in an attempt to see if it would help my headaches. I haven't had a Dr. Pepper in over two weeks now. I have been eating better and more often but less at a time to attempt to keep my blood sugar from triggering headaches. Sometimes it works and sometimes I do still get headaches but they seem to be easier to get rid of if I eat something... the right things right away. Before I would have low blood sugar and then spike it way up with sugar, caffeine and more sugar and then it would crash down again in an endless cycle. I have cut sweets and white bread along with white rice out of my diet and am an avid label reader now. For the most part only drink water now and a lot more salads with lean protein of some sort. I have also been walking and walking/jogging and am hoping to figure out some new and different ways to work out as well. It turns out, I like exercising! It gives my mind a rest and makes me feel refreshed. I should have started a long time ago! I have also been making naps or getting extra rest a priority. I read that sleep deprivation can also lead to pre-diabetes.
I think some of my symptoms have been disguised as other things. I work early and have 4 kids, of course I am tired. The headaches I blamed on lack of caffeine, or too much caffeine, since I have been a Dr. Pepper junkie for quite some time. Since I never liked coffee, although I can make a mean cappuccino, I relied on it to stay awake or to get me through my day. I would make my headaches temporarily better by downing ibuprofen, ice water, a soda and sometimes a milkshake. (I know that is not healthy but it was the only way I found to combat my headaches. I was always "too tired" or didn't feel well enough to exercise, although in high school and throughout my childhood I was always active in soccer and gymnastics and swimming etc. I kind of put myself on the back burner after we had kids.
I am determined to turn this thing around, and hopefully I will. "Do or do not, there is not try!" -Master Yoda from Star Wars once said...
Speaking of Star Wars...
This year Halloween fell on a weekend!! So I was finally able to get the fun pictures I want to take of the kids this time. I always end up being to stressed for time on the day or week of Halloween and never get good pictures of them in their costumes. I know my oldest will soon outgrow wanting to dress up for these things and I wanted to capture them while he still wants to be a part of it...
So here are my favorites from my little shoot...
And the clone troopers... "Aren't you a little short to be a Stormtrooper?" Ha ha! I think they make pretty adorable Stormtroopers myself... I may be a bit biased though.
Then some of the whole gang...
Our oldest had to teach his little sister how to hole the gun... Normally I do not like it when they play with guns, but in this case it made the outfits. I guess laser guns are okay... right? The guns used to be bright orange and I spray painted them... They did not take them out on Halloween night for trick or treating, I only used them for the pictures.
Hopefully it won't be another 3 months before I do another blog post... And sadly, if you read my last blog post, my younger boy is still sucking his thumb... Only not at school, so there's that. I may need to get him a wall poster of "Do or do not, there is no try!" for his new space to motivate him... Or put some Siracha hot sauce on his thumbs when he is sleeping... Anyway, I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween and you got to eat lots of candy for me! ;)
