These first two pictures are taken with my phone so sorry for the poor quality of them... Anyway, the picture below was taken the night before Kien's first day of preschool. He told me that night that he had a tummy ache and he didn't want to go to preschool the next day. I have worried about this for some time now, because he isn't as comfortable in social situations as his older siblings. He is very shy a lot of the time and is more of an introvert like me. They thrive at school and at making friends which I am so glad about, but with Kien I wasn't so sure how he would do.
The next morning he refused to go and said, "I don't want to go to preschool, Mommy!" It broke my heart a little, but I knew if I could just get him in the door he would be fine.
I was watching my niece and nephew later that morning so when they came, I devised a plan... "Let's go to the park!" I said. Kien suspected what I was up to and he said, "Not the school park! A different park!" I never confirmed which park we were going to but his cousins and little sister were so excited to go to the park that he decided to go with us. We got to the playground at the preschool and at first he was mad that I had went to that park... but then he saw all of the fun equipment and decided maybe it wouldn't be so bad... after they played for a little while, he up and said, "I want to go to school now!"
He even let me take some pictures! I almost didn't even bring my camera because of the stress of the morning and figuring he might not even go, but I am so glad that I did!
He took one picture by himself, and then the rest wanted to join in the fun! I asked them to do a silly face...
and then a smile... and this is what I got. I think I like the silly faces better! Ha!
He went inside where he was greeted by Ms. Kristen! I knew once he met her everything would be okay. She is so good with kids it amazes me. She gets them. Ethan and Kaia loved having her as their teacher!
She brought him to where some of the other kids were and showed him where the stickers were so he could put them in his journal. His name was even already on it! He thought that was pretty cool.
While he played, I took advantage of the time to take a few pictures around the classroom... she didn't mind that the other kids that were with me wanted to play for a few minutes which was awesome because it help put him at ease I think.
There was a painting station...
with a cool spinning art wheel...
A scissors station... hopefully he will not decide to turn this into his hair cutting station like he did at home... :0
There was even a scribbling table! Seriously, who wouldn't want to stay here?!
There were even rubber boots because we all know they are not afraid to get messy at preschool!
He was nice and settled in by now.. so I decided it was time to go. I gathered up the other kids and left... and when I came back...
He looked a little nervous and shy still, but was so excited to see me and told me all about his day and asked when the next day of preschool was! The second day of preschool he even made a new friend that wasn't one of his cousins! Ms. Kristen even told me she had to get on them for chatting too loudly with each other during circle time! Craziness. And so I guess the new chapter begins. I am trying to cherish every moment I have at home with him before he leaves me next year to go to school full time like the others... Love that boy... and I am so proud of him for overcoming his fears!
